In retrospect, I seem to wear a lot of hoodies. I have no idea why.
Needless to say, I’m attempting to branch out and dress more formally.
I was born in Bremerhaven, West Germany to an American family of Irish and Italian (mostly Sicilian) descent. As an army brat, I spent a few years abroad before returning with my parents to Brooklyn, New York, where my family originate from. I grew up in a traditional Sicilian household along with parents, sisters, uncles, grandparents, and even great-grandparents. My upbringing instilled in me a set of values and morals that put God and family above all else, which helps explain my political beliefs today. While I am proud of my country and have an affinity for cheeseburgers and TV dinners in particular, I grew up in a predominately Italian neighborhood, was exposed to Sicilian pidgin English during most of my youth, and my family cooked mainly Sicilian and Italian cuisine, so I suppose I haven’t been as Americanized as most people of my generation. Having been all across the East Coast of the United States, Canada, and throughout Central Europe, the only two places I’ve ever felt at home were in Brooklyn, and in Sicily… so I wouldn’t trade my background for the world.
